Our Story
She Deserves a Doula was created from lived experience.
Hello! I’m Tamekia
Licensed Therapist
I’m Tamekia, the founder of She Deserves a Doula and a certified postpartum doula. After giving birth multiple times, I experienced firsthand how overwhelming the postpartum season can feel. While welcoming a new baby is meaningful and beautiful, it can also be isolating, exhausting, and emotionally heavy, especially when family is not nearby or available to help.
As a military dependent, I know what it’s like to navigate postpartum recovery without a built-in support system. That experience shaped my understanding of how deeply needed compassionate, hands-on support can be during this time.
Our Approach
At She Deserves a Doula, our approach is centered on presence, care, and respect.
We focus on emotional support and practical help that allows mothers to recover and families to adjust. This may include listening, reassurance, light household help, meal preparation, newborn care while parents rest, and support for partners and older children.
We work alongside families to create a calm, supportive environment during the postpartum season.
What We Believe
We believe that every woman who gives birth deserves support after birth.
- Postpartum care should allow mothers to:
- Heal physically, emotionally, and mentally
- Rest without guilt
- Bond with their baby
- Feel seen, supported, and cared for
Support during postpartum is not a luxury. It is an important part of a healthy transition for both mothers and families.
Our Doulas
The doulas who work with She Deserves a Doula are chosen for their heart and passion, not just credentials.
This work is not about completing tasks or earning a paycheck. It’s about showing up with intention and compassion during one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s and family’s life.
Training and Certification
She Deserves a Doula is led by a certified postpartum doula trained through the International Doula Institute. Our training allows us to provide knowledgeable, non-medical support and to recognize when additional resources may be helpful.
